A Lake Tahoe Wedding | Lake Tahoe, CA

I am so excited to FINALLY be able to share this Lake Tahoe Wedding with you! I had the privilege of second shooting for one of my very dear friends, Susy of Susy Photo, in Kansas City, MO. When Susy excitedly called me to tell me she was hired for this destination wedding, it was without a doubt we would be shooting it together. Living so far from each other, the opportunities to shoot together are very slim. We were so excited for this opportunity!

Susy and her husband flew into San Jose. My husband and I picked them up from the airport and drove them to Monterey, CA. We had lunch overlooking the ocean then took them for a drive along the coast, stopping to dip our toes in the sand and breathe in the salt air. It was so surreal having her by my side, walking on the beach together.

The next day we spent the entire day in the pool at our house. It was a relaxing day drinking mimosas and talking about the wedding and our plans for how we would shoot it. We were like two giddy school girls. Our husbands are troopers and so supportive. They listened to us talk photography all day long!

After a good night sleep we got up and headed to Lake Tahoe. We couldn’t have been more excited to finally be on our way and closer to finally being able to work together. When we arrived we found ourselves a nice little bar with a DJ playing some great music. We made ourselves comfortable and sat there for a few hours taking in the scenery and enjoying our time together.

The day before the wedding we went our own ways in the morning then met for lunch. That evening it was time to go location scouting for the wedding portraits of our dreams! We drove to Emerald Bay State Park and hiked all over looking for the perfect spot. As we searched, Susy and I camp upon a bride and groom who were attempting to take their own wedding portraits! We stepped in and asked if we could assist them, explaining we were wedding photographers. They allowed us to use their camera to take some portraits for them. We realized they were from another country, Eastern European we think. It was fun giving them some bonus photos for their memories.

We finally found the perfect spot and took some time to exchange portraits of each other. The only problem is we were so hot and sweaty from hiking everywhere looking for spots and taking pictures for the other couple. It was fun despite it though.

We woke up early the next day and it was WEDDING DAY!!! Susy and I hauled all of our equipment down the road to Hard Rock Hotel where the bride was getting ready. When we entered her room she was so excited to see us!! She and Taylor are just the sweetest couple and they trusted Susy and I every step of the way, even when we asked them to stand on the edge of a cliff!

Mikayla and Taylor personalized their Lake Tahoe Wedding by incorporating their favorite things. Taylor loves video gaming and Mikayla is a passionate reader. Be sure to look closely at their custom made cake topper! Their Save the Date cards were custom bookmarks and their invitations were designed after a library card. Mikayla’s bridesmaids carried classic literature tied together with beautiful ivory ribbon while the groomsmen donned boutonnieres made from comic book pages.

Taylor and Mikayla had a picture perfect wedding day in the middle of Lake Tahoe aboard the Bleu Wave yacht with epic portraits in the mountains of Emerald Bay State Park.
