Five Favorite Movies | Friday Five
Today’s Friday Five is about my five favorite movies. I’m not a movie buff like my husband. He loves movies and his mind is a steel trap for movie quotes. You can’t have a conversation with him that doesn’t involve a movie quote. Music is more my thing. I can drop into song at the mention of just one word, but I do have a few favorite movies that I can watch on repeat and never get tired of.
Here are my Five Favorite Movies:
FORREST GUMP
Forrest Gump is my all time favorite movie, which is why it comes in at number one of my five favorite movies! Tom Hanks is my favorite actor. I think I’ve seen every movie and TV show he’s been in, all the way back to Bosom Buddies (Yes!, I’m that old!).
Sally Field is also in Forrest Gump, who ranks as one of my top actresses. I spent hours as a kid watching her in Gidget, and then came Smokey and the Bandit…enough said.
Besides showcasing my two favorite actors, Forrest Gump just hit me dead in the heart. Tom Hanks played that character so well. The movie hit on every emotion. It tugged on your heart strings and made you feel so sorry for Forrest, but you weren’t kept there. At just the right time you were laughing or falling in love. It was so well written. You couldn’t help but fall in love with each character.
BEACHES
Beaches almost takes the number one spot of my five favorite movies. It could easily tie with Forrest Gump.
What I love about this movie is the lifetime friendship between the two characters. It reminds me of my best friend and me. They are two opposite personalities and lifestyles that collide somewhere in the middle and make for the perfect friendship. No matter how bad things got between them they were still there for each other when it mattered. Like Forrest Gump, the movie takes you through every emotion, but you’ll be crying your eyes out in the end.
SIXTEEN CANDLES
I know I’m really aging myself with these movies, especially this one, but it is a MUST in my list of five favorite movies! John Hughes produced the best teen movies in the 80’s, but Sixteen Candles was the best of them all. It is hilarious, but what makes it so good is the eye candy known as Jake Ryan!! Ask any woman my age who Jake Ryan is and they will probably clutch their hearts and sigh.
Sixteen candles is just a fun movie full of silliness that has you laughing so hard, but you are falling in love right along with Sam and Jake. I can watch this movie a million times and never get tired of it.
MAMA MIA
As I said earlier, I love music, so this movie checks all the boxes for me! It’s playful and you can’t help but dance and sing along! When I want to check out of reality and just feel happy, Mama Mia is my go-to movie.
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY
Not much needs to be said about this movie and why it’s one of my five favorite movies. The music speaks for itself. The portrayal of Freddie Mercury was spot on. If you don’t love Queen we can’t be friends. I irritated everyone on my family when we watched this movie together because I couldn’t help but sing along to every song. It is fantastic!
