ADVICE FOR ENGAGED COUPLES : FROM THE WEDDING PROS

Advice for Engaged Couples

Just got engaged? Congratulations! You are in one of the most exciting seasons. There’s so much to consider when it comes to planning your wedding, and it can easily feel overwhelming. After all the initial celebrations and excitement, the reality of wedding planning might be starting to sink in — it’s thrilling, but can also feel a bit intimidating.

In this post, you’ll find helpful tips from wedding professionals in various fields — covering everything from general planning advice to the finer details — to help you start thinking about the logistics of your own special day.

“Congratulations on your engagement! Securing a makeup and hair artist is an important part of your day. Be sure to book these services at least six months to one year in advance to ensure availability of the artists you want!” Sierra Jane Studios – Fresno Hair and Makeup

“If you want to secure the DJ you really like and feel the vibe, don’t think twice. Book that DJ ASAP! The longer you wait, the faster someone else can swoop in and take that away. Other advice: Book all your vendors as soon as your mind is set on them. If the budget allows, then a wedding coordinator or planner can be essential to making the day run as smooth as possible”. DJ ToeKnee

“It is easy to get overwhelmed with everything that is on Instagram, Tik Tok, Pinterest and all of the other weddings you have been to, or what someone else is telling you to do, but ultimately, this is your day. Approach each detail based on your story and your style. Choose vendors and designs that will bring your vision to life while keeping your budget in mind. A few other important and fun tips: The guest count is a critical factor in determining both your budget impact and the overall vibe and atmosphere that you wish to have. Many wedding expenses are calculated on a per-person basis, including catering, drinks, and rentals. The more guests you invite, the higher these costs will be. For example a $50,000 budget for 75 guests will be different than a $50,000 budget for 300 Join your guests for cocktail hour! Celebrate with all of your favorite people, enjoy the fruits of your planning. Go for a second bridal look!  It does not have to break the budget, this is for both you and your partner. Whether it is a fun and festive dress, jumpsuit, sweat suit, or a jacket change, I highly recommend adding this to your timeline. This also gives you and your partner a moment to be alone during this quick change. Spend as much time together as possible. If you are going for a first look or not, you can have breakfast together, and then sneak away to finalize getting ready and have that moment prior to the ceremony or at the end of the aisle”. Shelley Ann – Shelley Ann Events

“Trust your photographer – Choose someone whose style and personality you connect with. You don’t want to just love their work, you need to love them as a person too! They will be with you all day, guiding you through portraits and ensuring you look your best. Make sure they are someone you enjoy being around and trust! Their expertise will guide you to stunning, natural photos you’ll treasure forever”. Susy Photo LLC, Kansas City photographer

“Starting wedding planning early is key – especially for your invitations. As soon as you book your venue, it’s time to book your stationer. Custom invitation design can take up to a full year, so giving yourself that time ensures every detail is perfect. While Pinterest is a great place for inspiration, don’t let it overwhelm you or lead you away from your own unique style. Your invitations set the stage for your wedding. Work with a designer who can capture your personality and vision. – Patrice Papier, Wedding Stationery Designer

“Wedding cake has been getting a bad wrap recently… you’ve heard people say ‘Nobody eats cake’… ‘Wedding cake is always dry’. The truth is, people will eat GOOD wedding cake. Make sure to schedule a wedding cake tasting and don’t stick to the plain white on white. Show your guests your personality and serve fun and flavorful cake! I usually tell my couples to order cake for about 75% of their guests. This will help keep costs down and less waste.” Bebe the Baker
